this is for you.

About:
dear stevenI remember your unkempt brown hair, your doe-like green eyes full of something that I desired, and your bright yellow t-shirt. I remember your twin bed and worn old brown blankets. I remember that first night, under the oak tree, I was wearing your jacket and I had never been offered to be kept warm before. I remember the fireflies and the butterflies and the apprehension in the cavity of my stomach. I remember mowed lawns, and broken cars, and day naps. I remember birthday parties, and dinners to the marina with your family. I remember the innocent kisses and those tear drenched hugs. I remember halving pieces of gum, and PDA in the high school hallways. I remember the first group of texts I sent you- I told you how important a trip to the beach was to me before the beach was to become out of reach. that weekend, you were the one to take me there, and hold my hand and find me seashells. you were the one that let me fall asleep in your arms at the seawall and brush through my hair with your fingertips for the first time. no one had ever done something like that for me.
I remember the next fifty days and the conversations that led us to 6,229 miles. I remember them telling us we’d never make it, but we fought to prove them wrong. I may have been just fifteen, but I had so much love to give, and was never given a chance to give it.
you gave me that chance, you gave me a chance and a chance and a chance again.
and I knew, on april 26, 2008, I was well on my way to loving you.
now we share a roof, and a mattress, a puppy, and a closet. we share meals, and sheets, and a pantry full of food. we share living room furniture, and dirty dishes, and the same laundry basket.
now you have short hair, and I have scars, you wear soft colored t-shirts, and I have two rings on my left hand- between the biggest finger, and the smallest finger- but your eyes are the same, doe-like, with less mystery and more love embedded inside of them. and something still to be desired.
your last name is my last name.thank you for the past three years.
